Flower Care & Sunflowers
Flower Care & Sunflowers
Sunflower stems and leaves are sensitive to contamination so
you must always use a clean vase when displaying them. They are also prone to
drying out so it is best to change the water in a vase on a daily basis. This
will help your flowers last longer and look their best.
Keep your sunflowers in a vase filled with fresh, cool tap
water and flower food. You can add a few drops of the flower food directly to
the vase before placing your flowers in it. Fill a clean vase about 3/4 of the
way full with the water and flower food.
Place the sunflower in the vase and make sure that the base
of the petals is covered by the water. Leave a few inches of space around the
stem. This will allow for the flower to open and bloom.
Treat your sunflowers with FloraLife(r) Quick Dip if they are
dry packed or received in poor condition. This product is a fungicide and will
prevent infection from botrytis. You may need to repeat this treatment every
few days or as needed for maximum uptake.
When using a bucket to process flowers, make sure to sanitize
the bottom with FloraLife(r) D.C.D.(r) Cleaner before putting them in the
bucket to avoid contamination from other flowers and objects. Afterwards, place
the flowers in a container that is well-ventilated and filled with a holding
solution such as FloraLife(r) Crystal Clear(r) 300 or FloraLife(r) Express 200.
Then cut about 1" / 3cm off the stems with clean,
sanitized clippers or knife and treat with FloraLife(r) Quick Dip. Rinse the
stems with water to remove any accumulated dirt.
If your flowers are in bud form, cut them about an inch off
the stems and put them in a vase of fresh cool water and floral gifts food. This will
help them open up and continue to bloom for several days.
To maximize the longevity of your bouquet, recut the stems on
day three. This will encourage the flower to open more and give it a more
attractive outward appearance.
A good quality sunflower will reopen within a few days after
being placed in a vase of fresh water and flower food. If your sunflowers have
not opened up by this point, they may be wilted and will need to be replaced.
Sunflowers are a popular choice for flower bouquets and can
be purchased in many different colors and varieties. They are available in both
upright and branching types.
They are a member of the Asteraceae family, and are commonly grown
for their ornamental value as well as their edible seeds. They are a great
source of vitamin E and other essential vitamins and minerals. They are also a
valuable source of plant fiber, oil, and silage. They are also an important
source of protein and calcium, making them a healthy alternative to flowers
that are often used in floral arrangements. To
